The Official Launch of the True Blue Dreaming Youth Mentoring Project took place at Wyalkatchem District High School on the 27th of June 2004. Over 200 people including parents, young people, service providers, local government members and teachers from Wylie, Koorda and Trayning attended the day's activities. The Launch of this exciting pilot project occurred after countless hours of work by the Local Co-ordinating Group, Wyalkatchem District High School, Shire of Wyalkatchem, Program Advisory Group, and several key people, without whose assistance the project and the launch would not be possible.
The launch was kicked started by the principal of Wyalkatchem District High School, Mr Paul Grundy who welcomed the guests to the school. Mr Ken Davis, representing the local Aboriginal community conducted a welcome to country and Mr Scott McKenzie, Chief Executive Officer with the Shire of Wyalkatchem welcomed all to Wylie. True Blue Dreaming were grateful to have the Honourable Mike Board, Shadow Minister for Youth and Health and other invited guests travel to Wyalkatchem to attend the launch.
Members of the Wyalkatchem Local Co-ordinating Group BJ, Bethan, Erin and David spoke of the need for a mentoring project in Wylie. Ten year old Jack, a mentee for the project, then spoke about his experiences as a mentee with James Fitzpatrick as his mentor. Beau and Mitchell showed their rapping and BMX skills with a video of BMX Rap. Junkadelic finished off the official part of the day with more singing and funky dancing.
