What does a mentor do?
As a mentor for True Blue Dreaming, your role would include the following:
Events in past have included learning to surf, community plantings, Adventure World, Perth Zoo, Qzar, BBQs, camps, and team building/leadership activities in Wyalkatchem and Perth.
Amongst all of the fun, we aim to incorporate awareness and elements associated with personal growth, health and wellbeing, environmental awareness, community development and financial management.
Your commitment as a mentor
The commitment to True Blue Dreaming as a mentor is for one year, but it is not as intense as it may seem. The commitment would include the following:
- Attend an initial interview and Mentor Training from 9am -1pm 16 August 2008. Ideally, you should be able to attend this training. However, if you are interested in participating as a mentor and are unable to attend on this date, please contact us and we will attempt to make alternative arrangements.
- Attend Matching Day Sat 30 & Sun 31 August 2008. Again, ideally you should be able to attend both days, as this is where you will be matched to your buddy.
- Attend group activities in Perth and Wyalkatchem - a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 8 events/activities over the 1 year period. These will be on weekends and will often be just one day or an afternoon commitment, not an entire weekend, apart from the inital matching day or a camp.
- Maintain regular contact with your buddy – fortnightly is ideal but 3 week to monthly is acceptable in busy months.
- Participate in Mentor Feedback sessions - 2-4 per year - some will be face to face, but feedback will also be gathered via email communication.
- Maintain regular contact with TBD Project Manger to check on mentoring relationship - this will tend to be 6-8 weekly contact via text, email or phone.
Further information on training dates, times and venues can be found on the Training page.
