Who we are
True Blue Dreaming's vision is a network of motivated young people driving personal, social and environmental development in rural and remote communities; equality of opportunity between rural, remote and metropolitan Australia; and a greater understanding of and respect for Indigenous culture.
Young people aged 11-18 in participating communities are matched with an inspirational mentor as they share a year-long journey exploring personal growth, environmental stewardship, and community development. Principles of emotional intelligence, self awareness and self management form the foundation for the personal growth component. Action-based learning and leadership are fundamental to the environmental stewardship and community development themes, with tangible outcomes being achieved by young people. These have included tree plantings and the renovation of a community 'Youth Zone' in the WA Wheatbelt, and the production of a calendar which tells the Dreaming story of the young people of Looma, an Indigenous community in the Kimberley.
It is hoped that when a critical mass of True Blue Dreamers is reached within rural communities, they will form a driving force to achieve community growth. It is an investment in the next generation of community leaders. Over the next twenty four months TBD will be rolled out in WA and other states and territories. The scope of this expansion is very much dependent on local champions who wish to involve their community in such an innovative program.
If we dream, for ourselves and our communities, and have the courage to involve young people in this process, anything can be achieved.
